Between being and becoming...

This week has been a whirlwind of learning, experiencing, growing and longing.  I am currently in a state that I can only describe as between being and becoming.  Sometimes, I feel like I am excelling at being an adult in some areas, but I constantly reminded that I am on the front end of becoming all that God has planned for me in the years to come.  I am constantly realizing that although I may be of adult age, with adult responsibilities, worries, friends and goals, I am still very much a child.  I am a child who calls her parents when she is mad that her car is in the shop, when she is excited about successfully running a meeting at the office, when a new lease has been signed or when the sun is finally shining in Minnesota.  I might appear to be an adult, but sometimes I feel like a child who is reaching out to hold the hand of someone who has survived the bumps, curves and hills of the path that lies ahead.

I am constantly trying to remind myself that the hand that I should desire to hold is the hand who has laid out every step I have taken and every step that I will take.  I need to hold the hand that holds the world.  It is so easy to learn to rely on the people around you (don't get me wrong, I fully intend on choking back tears while complaining about my lame car to my mom for years to come) but it is so important to rely on God in all things.

When you are flooded with new decisions, when you take a leap of faith, when you are trusting in Him, when you are excited, when you are scared, when you feel childish, when you feel more grown-up than ever before, when you feel like something couldn't be more right, when you wonder if you have made the right choice, and when you find yourself between being and becoming...Just reach for the hand that holds the world.

The Tables Have Turned

Here I am again.  Back after neglecting this blog for many weeks...One of these days, I will master the art of blogging on a regular basis.  I feel this day will come when my evenings are not filled with study guides, journals, hour logs, outlines and textbooks.  Alas, those days are so close.  When I wrote last, the countdown to graduation was at exactly 3 months.  Now, as I write I am shocked at the reality that there are less than 6 weeks until I dress myself in a cap and gown and call the last 4 years history.  Don't get me wrong...I am quite thrilled at the accomplishment of college graduation, but facing what comes after graduation is what gives me the heeby-geebies.

The tables have most certainly turned since this post.  Instead of being a homeless, jobless, terrified, soon-to-be-college grad, I am now and soon-to-be-grad with a signed lease (and roommate), new employee orientation in the morning (EEE!!) and a renewed hope for what the Lord's plan holds for the coming months.

Let me break that down for you just a bit...

  • From homeless to home--Shortly after the last post, I was given the certainty that I needed to begin looking elsewhere because my current roommates and I are parting ways (which makes me wanna cry a little lot) for different parts of the Twin Cities metro and possibly different parts of the country :(.  From there, I entered mild panic mode while hunting for a 1-bedroom apartment.  When faced with the choice to live in a studio apartment in the ghetto where I might get shot or to live solely on Ramen noodles for the next several years, I realized that a roommate would be a necessary part of the equation.  Long story short, I have an A-MA-ZING apartment just a short jaunt from where I live now and a great roommate to go along with the deal.  I will post pictures of my new home when I move:)
  • From jobless to employed--in the interest of keeping it simple (which it is not)--I am employed by...drum roll please...the one, the only, Eagle Brook Church.  bam!  I anticipate a great deal of learning and waiting in the coming weeks and months.  I start tomorrow--prayers are appreciated needed.
  • From terrified to hopeful--Without the fear of being jobless and homeless, now I am hopeful for what will be next in this journey...stay tuned

That is all for now...let me leave you with these random tidbits of awesomeness.

*Funny--Today marks the 119th anniversary of the first recorded ice cream sundae in history
*Awe-inspiring--"The power that brought Jesus Christ back from the dead is the same power that lives in us" -Jason Anderson, Eagle Brook Church.
