I figured I should start this blog out on the right foot with a crazy story. So, as you might know, I LOVE being prepared. I am all about "Expect the best, prepare for the worst," "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail," "Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part." Basically, I love to plan and I love it when other people are organized and have planned well. But sometimes, no matter what you do, there are events that happen in life that you just never considered possible. For me, this comes in the form of a job interview.
I am not actively looking for jobs yet because graduation is 8 months out, and in my desired career field, that is just too far in advance to be job-hunting. But, considering my love for planning, it is certainly not too early to test the waters for job-hunting. So, I was chatting with someone from church who I really respect and he suggested that I fill out an application for practice and submit it to see if I could get an interview. So, I did. Long story short, I was directed to a church with rather extensive application and interview processes, and I spent a few hours filling out an application. No joke, less than 24 hours later I was offered a phone interview. I had NOT planned for this, but I accepted the opportunity to practice my interviewing skills for a job that I knew in my heart I could never accept.
At this point, you might be thinking "why couldn't she accept this job?" Well, you see, this job is in Hawaii. That's right. Nearly 5000 miles away. At this point in my life, I am not ready to leave the familiar for a land of heat, humidity and a ridiculously high cost of living. However, I am ready to use this opportunity to learn more about myself and my abilities.
So, at this time tomorrow I will have completed my first real interview for a job that I could never have. I guess it works out that "aloha" means hello and goodbye. Aloha, job opportunity.
